Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Raids Steel Business for ID Theft

PHOENIX - Detectives are serving a search warrant at Great Western Erectors, just north of the airport, on suspicion of employing illegal workers.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office has reason to believe that at least 28 employees are using false identification to gain employment.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio says the investigation began about 4 months ago.

Because of the weather, paychecks did not arrive from the Dallas headquarters and 10 people were arrested -- eight of whom were the targets and two on warrants.

"The manager did confirm that the checks did not arrive because of the weather conditions, which means that many of the targets we had did not show up. But we'll track them down, and try to place them under arrest," Sheriff Joe told FOX 10.

MCSO is seizing records and will determine whether or not the managers hired illegal workers knowingly.

Great Western Erectors is located at 211 S 26th Street in Phoenix and is a steel fabrication facility.
