OAKLAND -- A first-of-its-kind municipal identification and debit card will become available to residents next month, making Oakland the first city to help undocumented immigrants not only prove their identity, but avoid expensive check-cashing outfits.

The card, which is tentatively slated to make its debut Feb. 1, will be available to all residents. It can also function as a library card, and Mayor Jean Quan said she hoped students would be able to use them to buy school lunches and that merchants would offer special deals to cardholders.

Quan and Councilman Ignacio De La Fuente first proposed city identification cards in 2009 to help assure undocumented residents that they wouldn't risk deportation by reporting crimes or coming forward as witnesses to crimes.

Quan also wanted the cards to have the banking feature -- an option not available on other cities' identification cards. The banking feature took several years for the city to put in place. The City Council approved a banking provider in October.

"I think Oakland is one of those cities that actually put our money where our mouth is," De La Fuente said during a Wednesday news briefing on the card program.

Although Oakland's card is still in the works, deputy city manager Arturo Sanchez said cities from as far away as Connecticut have contacted him to learn more about the debit card component. Richmond and Los Angeles are moving ahead with similar cards, he said.

The card, whose debit feature is optional, will cost $15. The city anticipates issuing about 6,000 cards in the first year.

Oakland already has declared itself a Sanctuary City, directing police officers not to question anyone's immigration status. Asked if the new ID cards compromised federal immigration law, Quan said, "Sometimes federal law is unjust. These are people who are residents of our city."

The card program is not supposed to cost the city any money. Debit cardholders will have to pay standard fees to put money on the card and use it at ATMs. If the fees rise above a certain threshold, Oakland will be able to seek a different banking partner, Sanchez said.

To receive a card, applicants will have to show photo identification, which could include an expired visa or student identification card, as well as proof of Oakland residency.

The program's office will be at City Hall, though city officials hope to open satellites in Chinatown and the heavily Latino Fruitvale District.

Wherever there are large population concentrations of illegal aliens, the murder, rape, larceny, burglary, assault, and identity theft rates go up equally and directly proportionate to that (illegal alien) population.

Oakland, like Los Angeles and the other sanctuary cities turned into fiscal sinkholes and social nightmares throughout the country are shining examples of state-sponsored illegal alien immigration.

Multiply this disastrous sanctioned crime on a national scale and you have the proven formula for the demise of the United States. And all of this pandering and illegal use of public funding to sponsor illegal aliens is occurring exactly and spontaneously as the whole country goes into a depression worse than the Great Depression, and with the full consent of all three Bodies of (worthless) government ..

Cities and states have seen their budgets decimated during the Great Recession, as revenue plunged due to dropping home prices and high unemployment. They had to make some desperate choices to save funds, including laying off scores of public safety workers (or even turning off their streetlights).


Oakland was no different, laying off 200 police officers, despite the city having the fifth-highest crime rate in the country. However, the city chose to fire those officers while preserving a $17 million payment to the National Football League’s Oakland Raiders and Major League Baseball’s Oakland Athletics:

Oakland, California, the fifth-most crime ridden city in America, faced a $32 million budget deficit last year. It closed the gap by dismissing a fourth of its police force, more than 200 officers.
Untouched was the $17.3 million that the city pays to stage 10 games a season for the National Football League’s Oakland Raiders and to host Major League Baseball’s Athletics in the O.co Coliseum. The funds cover debt financing and operations and are supplemented by $13.3 million from surrounding Alameda County, based on data compiled by Bloomberg from public records.

Nearly every single NFL stadium was built with public money or benefits from public infrastructure built specifically nearby. This money, as many studies have shown, does not provide much economic benefit to the surrounding community. It merely lines the pockets of the already wealthy owners of professional sports franchises.
Adding insult to injury, the National Footbal League itself is a non-profit entity, like other pro sports leagues. The federal government loses about $91 million in revenue due to sports leagues not having to pay taxes.

So Oakland, which is one of the most violent cities in America, which cannot afford to pay their police officers, which has a problem with destructive mobs forming in their streets, is going to focus money and energy on helping illegal aliens out.

Yea, makes senses when one considers illegal immigration a weapon to destroy America.
