Many big city mayors in Connecticut have concerns about the Secure Communities program, but not Mayor Mark Boughton of Danbury, which has had seen its share of immigration arrests.

An article in the Connecticut Post quoted Boughton as saying the full implementation of the federal program would be business as usual in Danbury. Danbury Police joined Secure Communities on a pilot program basis since 2009.

Secure Communities shares local arrest information with the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, and allows ICE agents to ask local authorities to detain a suspected undocumented alien for 48 hours without charges.

Implementation of the program was delayed in September at Gov. Dannel Malloy’s request. New Haven Mayor John DeStefano is opposed to Secure Cities, but Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch felt the same as Boughton, according to the Connecticut Post article.
