Illegal immigrant moved hookers among brothels

An illegal immigrant charged in connection with an alleged interstate prostitution ring pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court to transporting prostitutes to Annapolis and Easton.
Jose Antonio Reyes-Maradiaga, 28, a citizen of El Salvador who most recently lived in Annapolis, faces up to 10 years in federal prison when sentenced May 11 in U.S. District Court in Baltimore.
Reyes-Maradiaga — also known as Luis Alberto Reyes — was one of five people charged last November in connection with the prostitution ring.
Charges are pending against the alleged ringleader, German de Jesus Ventura, 33, of Capitol Heights, and his alleged associate, Kerlin Esquivel-Fuentes, 24, of Annapolis.
Isidro Jiminez-Sanchez and Wilbert Herrera-Aranda, both 33, each pleaded guilty in February to one count of transporting prostitutes. Jiminez-Sanchez was sentenced to one year in federal jail and Herrera-Aranda was sentenced to 18 months.
According to the plea agreement, Reyes-Maradiaga was spotted several times between June and November 2010 driving or riding as a passenger in vehicles that were transporting prostitutes between the brothels.
Police in Annapolis even stopped Reyes-Maradiaga while he was driving on June 28, 2010, and found he did not have a Maryland driver’s license. He was taken to the city police station on Taylor Avenue and processed.
A search of Reyes-Maradiaga’s property recovered $723.76 in cash, two cellphones, photo IDs from El Salvador and Mexico listing different names, and a receipt showing the purchase of paper towels, condoms, and other supplies for the brothels.
Other court documents reveal the extensive nature of the investigation that eventually resulted in the arrest of Ventura and the charges against the other four men.
According to a 45-page affidavit drafted by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent, city police started investigating the prostitution ring in September 2008, after a man was killed and a woman seriously wounded in a shooting on Janwall Street near Forest Drive.
The probe into the Sept. 13, 2008, murder of 34-year-old Ricardo Humberto Rivas-Ramirez led investigators to several brothels in Annapolis and other jurisdictions, according to the documents.
The affidavit also outlined several robberies, as well as strong-arm tactics investigators believed Ventura and his crew employed to intimidate competitors.

Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented worker" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist"........

BALTIMORE (AP) - A man convicted of numerous charges involving prostitution and sex trafficking has been sentenced to 35 years in prison.
Thirty-five-year-old German de Jesus Ventura of Capitol Heights was sentenced Tuesday in federal court in Baltimore.
According to evidence presented at his trial, Ventura ran brothel operations in Maryland, Washington, Virginia and New York. One brothel was in Easton, Md. at 318 E. Dover Street.
