GRANT COUNTY, N.M. -- Grant County sheriff’s deputies said they seized 601 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop on Monday morning.

After deputies pulled a car over near mile marker 49 on Highway 9, the two men in the car jumped out of the vehicle and fled toward the Mexican border. Both were undocumented immigrants, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies said they found 13 bundles of pot in the truck’s cab and bed. The street value of the drugs seized is estimated at more than $210,000.

The U.S. Border Patrol eventually caught up with the two men. The suspects’ names aren’t being released and the case was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Border Drug Task Force.
