CORPUS CHRISTI-A McAllen man was sentenced today to nearly 16 years in federal prison in what authorities are calling the largest single seizure of methamphetamine in the last five years in the Corpus Christi division.
Rolando Reyna, 28, was arrested in November at the Sarita checkpoint after agents found 44 bundles of meth. The drugs, which weighed nearly 30 kilos, were in a hidden compartment of a pick-up truck, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Reyna pleaded guilty in April. He admitted he drove the drugs from Guadalajara, Mexico, and was en route to Atlanta, federal prosecutors said. He also said he was going to get paid $10,000 for delivering the drugs.
On Thursday, U.S. District Judge Hayden Head sentenced Reyna to 188 months in prison and ordered him to serve a term of five years of supervised released when he's let out.
