"January 9, 2006 (WEST CHICAGO) - An elderly couple was brutally beaten as they fed birds at a west suburban apartment complex over the weekend. David Martinez-Villareal is now charged in connection with the attack.

The woman remains hospitalized in critical condition. The suspect was arrested within minutes of the attack on Sunday morning. The beating took place in the 800-block of Main Street in West Chicago.

David Martinez-Villareal is being held on a $2 million bond. There is a nine-count complaint against him and prosecutors say those charges may be upgraded. Police say they still have no idea what fueled the beatings against the elderly couple.

Feeding birds at a West Chicago apartment complex was a morning routine for an older couple who have lived in the western suburbs for the past 31 years.

On Sunday morning, police say, the couple pulled into the complex when they were approached by David Martinez-Villareal. Apparently he had stepped out of his apartment for a smoke. Police say the 21-year-old, for no reason, began to scream at the 65-year-old husband and his 71-year-old wife.

"He went to the driver's side vehicle, punched the husband in the face repeatedly. His wife got out of the vehicle and yelled at the person who was attacking her husband. The offender then turned his attention towards the wife and beat her up unmercifully. Punched her in the face. Knocked her to the ground, kicked her in the torso, in the head, rendering her unconscious," said Joe Birkett, DuPage County state's attorney.

The state's attorney says Villareal then got into the couple's pickup truck and ran over the wife with both the front and back wheels. He then fled with the vehicle and was caught by police four minutes later inside the complex.

"It was appalling to me for someone to get beaten that bad for no reason whatsoever. It is an embarrassment that it happened in my community," said Det. Laz Perez, West Chicago police.

The wife remains at the hospital with severe head and body injuries. Prosecutors say the motive for the beating is still a mystery.

"Right now he is charged with what most people would characterize as bizarre, inhumane behavior, an attack on two elderly citizens like a dog," said Birkett.

To protect the couple's privacy, police are not releasing their names.

As for the suspect, Villareal has been in this the country for a year. He is from Mexico. Police say he did have a job at a graphics company in West Chicago.

Ok this is strange. The police do not usually withhold victim names unless they are dead and next of kin have not been notified, the victim is a minor, or the victim is a rape victim.

Perhaps the victims names would lead readers to consider some kind of motive for the crime? Perhaps they were white, black, Jewish, or Arabic?

We need their names even if we keep them behind closed doors.

This could possibly be a hate crime and race could be the factor. We also need to know the assailants immigration status.

We do not usually post articles where the immigration status of the perp is as of yet unknown, but in this case we have a strong reason to be suspicious.

The perpetrator is young, he has been in the country only a short period of time, and the authorities have applied high bail which usually indicates illegal alien flight status. He meets the profile to a T so far, but he could have a worker permit.

We need some activists to get a confirm on this.

WEST CHICAGO -- A West Chicago man was in the DuPage County Jail on Sunday after attacking another man to steal his pickup truck and then running over the vehicle's 71-year-old female passenger with the stolen truck, police said.

Both victims were in Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield Sunday night, with the passenger in critical condition, officials from the West Chicago Police Department said in a news release.

Shortly before 8 a.m. Sunday, David Martinez-Villareal, 21, of the 800 block of Main Street, punched and kicked the 65-year-old driver while stealing the man's Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck on the same block where Martinez-Villareal lives, police said.

Martinez-Villareal then punched and kicked the passenger and, after ejecting her from the truck, ran her over with the vehicle, police said.

Martinez-Villareal was arrested soon after near the scene and has been charged with vehicular invasion, aggravated vehicular hijacking, six counts of aggravated battery and two counts of aggravated battery to a senior citizen, police said."

When "David Martinez-Villareal" comes back to America,where do you think he will live,and work? Will it be Texas,or will it be North Carolina,may be DC..who knows? The odds are very good, that "BUSH" will set him free.

Maybe he's a gangbanger and police are afraid to release the names of the victims for their own safety.
