CBP at Progreso International Bridge Apprehends Fugitive On Alleged Felony Child Indecency

Progreso, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Progreso International Bridge apprehended a fugitive wanted by Harris County, Texas, on an alleged felony charge of indecency with a child.

On Sept. 24, CBP officers at the Progeso International Bridge came in contact with a northbound male traveler identified as Jose Angel Mendiola, a 47-year-old Mexican citizen, from Galveston, Texas. While at primary, a check of a national database identified Mendiola as the subject of an outstanding criminal arrest warrant. The warrant identified Mendiola as a fugitive, wanted by the Houston, Texas, Harris County Sheriff’s office on a felony charge of indecency with a child.

After his arrest, Mendiola was transferred to the custody of the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s office in Edinburg, Texas.

Nancy Becker, CBP port director for Progreso, said, “Our frontline officers screen all arriving international travelers and run database checks. In the screening process, fugitives such as this one, are identified and are taken into custody. I commend our officers for a job well done.â€
