Mexican citizen indicted for illegal re-entry, possession of fraudulent documents

HARRISBURG, Pa. — A Mexican man was charged Wednesday with illegal re-entry and fraudulent document charges after an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) in Philadelphia.

Agustin Lopez-Velasco, 38, a native and citizen of Mexico unlawfully residing in the United States, was charged in a two-count indictment by a federal grand jury in Harrisburg. If convicted, Lopez-Velasco faces a maximum sentence of up to 12 years in prison and a $500,000 fine.

The indictment alleges that Lopez-Velasco, an alien previously arrested and deported from the United States in March 2011, re-entered the United States and was apprehended in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. The indictment also alleges Lopez-Velasco knowingly possessed a fraudulent permanent resident card.
