INDIANAPOLIS - A Mexican national who immigrated illegally to the United States and settled in Indiana has been deported to Mexico to face a homicide charge, officials said.

Efrain Rivera-Rico, 32, who has been living in Seymour, Ind., is wanted in Michoacán on a 2001 arrest warrant in connection with the shooting death of a woman who was riding in a car he was driving.

According to the arrest warrant out of Michoacán, Rivera-Rico was driving a car with three passengers when he reportedly pulled off the road, shot Marce Judith Martinez-Camacho in the head with a .38-caliber handgun and drove away, leaving her body in a ditch by the highway.

Rivera-Rico has been serving a nine-year sentence in Jackson County, Ind., for a 2009 conviction for dealing cocaine, and immigration officials arranged for deportation upon his release from prison.

Rivera-Rico was flown to Texas and turned over to Mexican authorities May 10.
