MI - 6 Illegal Immigrants Arrested After Calling Ambulance For Ride
April 26, 2012 8:14 AM
OLIVER TWP. (WWJ/AP) - Six illegal immigrants from Mexico have been arrested at a construction site in Huron County after one called 911 to request an ambulance for a ride.
Huron County Sheriff Deputies say the men had a disagreement Wednesday with a supervisor at the Cooperative Elevator Company grain elevator construction site in Oliver Township, about 100 miles north of Detroit.
Authorities say the men just wanted to leave and there was no medical need for an ambulance. They were arrested and turned over to federal authorities.
Cooperative Elevator President and CEO Pat Anderson said she’s concerned that illegal immigrants working for a project subcontractor were on the job. Anderson said the subcontractor is “the responsibility of the general contractor” and the general contractor is working with authorities.
Huron County Sheriff deputies say the men will now face deportation hearings. Wednesday’s incident is the second time this year Huron County Sheriff deputies have found illegal aliens.
On March 31, an illegal immigrant working for an Indiana contractor at the Cooperative Elevator’s Ruth location was taken into custody by Bad Axe Police after he allegedly committed a number of minor traffic offenses, The Huron Daily Tribune reported. The man was turned over to immigration authorities and was deported.
