Middle Eastern migrants are rejecting Denmark as a country in which to seek asylum, claiming that the “salaries” offered to “refugees” are not as high as other European countries. They are now demanding to go to Sweden or Finland as the terms of asylum there are more favourable.

In a report by Denmark’s TV2 News, migrants told a local journalist that they do not want to stay in Denmark, but are choosing instead to head to Sweden to register for asylum.

Speaking conversational English, one migrant told the reporter “We want Sweden.” When she puts it to him that Sweden is 500km (310miles), he smiles and replies: “No problem. We walked from Syria to here [with] no problem.”

Marwen el Mohammed, another asylum seeker in Denmark told the reporter that there were two reasons the men did not want to seek asylum in Denmark, a peaceful country. “The first one: the salary for refugees decreased about 50 per cent from 10,000 kroner to about 5,000,” he said.

The second is that Finland and other neighbouring countries allow the migrants to bring their families to join them within two to three months, whereas Denmark makes them wait for a year and a half before they bring their families over. “This is a long time to have left our family behind,” he said.

In the face of hundreds of thousands of migrants entering Europe to claim asylum, the Danish government last week tightened immigration rules.

According to the Danish immigration authorities, the Danish Parliament agreed to slash social benefits for newly arrived refugees by 50 per cent; foreign nationals will not be able to bring family to Denmark for a year; and foreign nationals must wait at least five years for a permanent residence permit. In addition, only those who can speak and understand Danish will be granted a permit.

The rules around deportation of failed asylum seekers have also been altered to ensure that they leave the country, via a new “special return centre” to ensure that rejected asylum seekers leave Denmark as quickly as possible.

This is not the first time Denmark has tightened immigration laws. The country saw the number of people applying for asylum plunge early this year after it brought in new laws which introduced a temporary, one year residence permit for those fleeing wars such as the one in Syria.

Consequently, just 626 people, half of whom were from Syria, applied for asylum in Denmark in January, down from 3,150 in September 2014, according to The Local.

Meanwhile Sweden, who in 2013 became the first European country to grant automatic residency to Syrian refugees, has seen record numbers of asylum requests.

Oh my God, that's the funniest thing I've ever heard. Send these fruitcake frauds back to Syria. No wonder their country is in civil war.

Where do US refugees go? I have been watching my net worth vacillate all over the place----and you need at least $500,000 (liquid I presume) to get permanent status in Australia---where they actually have a little sense left.

I lived in Turkey and Syria is due south.
Not many Africans in either country. The picture leading the article serves to be more psychological than reality based.
An image based, natural, mental inflection is summond with this clever depiction of a refugee. It is the slightest form of setting a "mental mood" for the rest of the article.
    Clever.

Bet Syrian "refugees" probably just don't like riding bicycles! They have been spoiled with cheap gasoline, so why not go get a new Volvo in Sweden at the taxpayers expense?

All these well-meaning but stupid countries need to send all the refugees from wherever they may have originated back to their lands of citizenship, because in reality, they're just a bunch of illegal aliens on the move.

So, just tell them "GO HOME".

Report: Sweden's Pro-Refugee Policies Aren't Working Out So Well

Open borders + welfare state = bad news for Europe's most "welcoming" country

The Globe and Mail’s Margaret Wente has been doing a little research into how things are going with Sweden's left-lauded "welcoming" and "generous" immigrant policies. Her conclusion: "Not so well." At all.

"In Sweden, where equality is revered, inequality is now entrenched," writes Wente. Citing staggering unemployment rates for immigrants, even after 15 years of living in the country, and skyrocketing

welfare costs (58% of welfare payments go to immigrants, 16% of the population).

Meanwhile, the population is getting increasingly bulkanized, with more and more immigrants uninterested in assimilating while now around a quarter of Swedes side with the country's anti-immigration party.

Wente begins by highlighting stories of Middle Eastern refugees doing everything in their power to get to Sweden because of their touted reputation as Europe's most immigrant-friendly country, taking in "more refugees per capita than any other

European country." Immigrants now make up 16% of the population, most of them from the Middle East and Africa.

As most of Europe's leading countries appear to be trying to follow Sweden's lead, economist Tino Sanandaji, himself an immigrant, told Wente, warns that the "generous" country is facing some major problems, particularly when it comes to employment and crime

"There has been a lack of integration among non-European refugees," [Sanandaji] told me. Forty-eight per cent of immigrants of working age don’t work, he said. Even after 15 years in Sweden,

their employment rates reach only about 60 per cent. Sweden has the biggest employment gap in Europe between natives and non-natives.

In Sweden, where equality is revered, inequality is now entrenched. Forty-two per cent of the long-term unemployed are immigrants, Mr. Sanandaji said. Fifty-eight per cent of welfare payments

go to immigrants. Forty-five per cent of children with low test scores are immigrants. Immigrants on average earn less than 40 per cent of Swedes. The majority of people charged with murder,

rape and robbery are either first- or second-generation immigrants. “Since the 1980s, Sweden has had the largest increase in inequality of any country in the OECD,” Mr. Sanandaji said.

Wente suggests that one of the reasons things have been allowed to get so bad is the failure of the "self-censorship" of the politically correct Swedish media:

The main political parties, as well as the mainstream media, support the status quo. Questioning the consensus is regarded as xenophobic and hateful. [...]

Sweden’s acute immigration problems scarcely feature in the mainstream media. Journalists see their mission as stopping racism, so they don’t report the bad news. Despite – or perhaps because

of – this self-censorship, the gap between the opinion elites and the voters on immigration issues is now a chasm.

With the welfare budget quadrupling and the numbers living in "nice Swedish welfare ghettos" expanding, the media can't effectively hide the reality of the situation from the Swedish people. Now more than half (58%) of Swedes think the number of

immigrants being allowed into the country is too high, with 20-25 percent of Swedes now supporting the anti-immigration Sweden Democrats party.
