A Milford mother whose son was killed by an illegal immigrant in a 2011 crash said charges against four Guatemalans in a Framingham beating and rape last week show the need for a border wall, and show why she and so many other Americans are backing Donald Trump.

“We need to build something to secure our southern border so that when we do deport these people, it’s not a revolving door,” said Maureen Maloney, noting a Herald report that two of the men had been deported in 2014.

Maloney’s son, Matthew Denice, 23, was killed in 2011 when his motorcycle was struck by a pickup truck driven by Nicolas Dutan Guaman, an Ecuadorian who was in the country illegally. Guaman was sentenced to 12 to 14 years for the crash, in which Denice was pinned underneath a tire well and dragged to his death.

“It’s sick enough that we have this stuff in our own society,” Maloney added, “but when we’re letting foreigners come in here and abuse us, somebody has to put a stop to it.”

Maloney said she and her husband met privately with Trump about her son’s death in August. She said she believes Trump is the only candidate who will take action. “We need somebody like him, or somebody that’s going to take the stance that he’s taken right now, to get our country back on track.”

Maloney called accounts of last Sunday’s attack in Framingham “totally horrific, all capitals, with exclamations.” Four men are accused of abducting a woman who was pinned down and raped on a bed as her boyfriend was beaten.

Authorities said the couple encountered the four illegal immigrants — brothers Elmer Diaz, 19; Ariel Diaz, 24; and Adan Diaz, 32; as well as Marlon Josue Jarquin-Felipe, 27 — while out walking.

Ariel Diaz and Jarquin-Felipe were deported in 2014 and later returned. Adan Diaz was arrested for drunken driving in Framingham in February, and Ariel Diaz was arrested for drunken driving in December, but an immigration official said the federal agency did not appear to have been made aware of the arrests. Federal immigration officials have requested detainers on all four.

Charles Sisitsky, chairman of the Framingham Board of Selectmen, said the issue may be discussed at a future meeting, but said he isn’t concerned the crimes are an outgrowth of the town’s friendliness to immigrants, whose businesses he said keep the downtown thriving.

“I’m sure we’ll get a report from the police chief and see what he says in terms of his side of the story,” Sisitsky said. “Any kind of crime like that concerns me. It’s obviously not a good thing, but it’s not unique to Framingham by any stretch. It’s something we just have to deal with.”

Framingham police Chief Kenneth Ferguson did not respond to a request for comment.

Maloney said, “People are voting and people are tired of this. Even if Hillary, God forbid, was to be elected, I don’t think this problem is going to go away. The people are starting to speak up about it, and wanting our laws enforced.”

So sorry for your loss. We've been fighting for years to stop this travesty. Hopefully, soon, we'll have a President and perhaps even a Congress that is American driven and will start doing the right things to fix our country.

Thank you so much for supporting Donald Trump. There is no person in the race for President for decades who both understands and is willing to stop this horrible problem.

I know it will not bring back your son, but your efforts will show that at least his death was not in vain and your efforts catalyzed a solution to this horrible problem that will protect other Americans and their children from the ravages of illegal immigration.

Nicolas Dutan Guaman, the undocumented immigrant who dragged Milford's Matthew Denice to his death, appeals conviction

WORCESTER -- Nicolas Dutan Guaman, the undocumented immigrant who struck and dragged Milford's Matthew Denice to his death in 2011, is seeking to have at least one of his convictions thrown out.

Guaman's attorney went before three Massachusetts Appeals Court judges in Worcester Monday morning to argue that the manslaughter by motor vehicle charge should be tossed out. Guaman was convicted in 2014 of that charge and motor vehicle homicide.

His lawyer argued that only the conviction for motor vehicle homicide should stand.

"Manslaughter requires reckless conduct. Motor vehicle homicide only requires negligent conduct. The evidence did not show Guaman acted recklessly," said attorney Ethan Stiles.

Guaman was driving drunk when he rolled through a stop sign and struck Denice on his motorcycle. Denice was stuck under the front of the truck and pulled into the wheel well as Guaman tried to speed away. He dragged Denice a quarter mile to his death.

Prosecutors argued Guaman knew that he was dragging Denice and noted there we many witnesses who tried to get him to stop the truck.

"Isn't stop and banging on the car a universal language?" asked Judge Peter Agnes during the hearing.

Stiles argued that his client, who comes from a mountain town in Ecuador and only has a second grade education, was in shock and didn't fully understand what was happening. He also noted that Guaman speaks Quechua and doesn't understand English.

Maureen Maloney, Denise's mother, said outside the courtroom that she hopes the judges will see through the defense attorney's arguments.

"He never showed a drop of remorse," Maloney said. "The only thing he's remorseful for is that he's in jail."

Maloney said Guaman "absolutely" was acting recklessly. She had hoped he would be convicted of second-degree murder.

Guaman is currently two years into serving a 12 to 14 year sentence.

The judges could decide to hold a new trial or Guaman's sentence could be reduced to 9 to 10 years.

These illegals are tearing apart OUR families and this needs to stop! We need to get signs printed to STOP TEARING APART AMERICAN FAMILIES on our own soil for Pete's sake!

Thoughts and prayers to all families who have lost loved ones to illegals. This makes my blood boil and I have such disgust for those in the White House that condone and FUND this invasion with OUR money! The same goes for those Mayors and Governor's of their States that allow sanctuary cities and let these people go and KILL our citizens!

Cut off the funding for illegals...every damn dime! No federal funding to sanctuary cities and shame on the Churches who aid and abet illegals and disregard our laws. Go help them in their Country. Send them back, no court, no rights, no freebies!

I really don't understand the light sentence for such a gruesome awful crime.

We can not protect ourselves from these people when they're in our country, which is why we have laws that prevent and prohibit their presence here.

They gotta go.
