Thread: More Mexicans returning home, fewer coming to U.S.

They are trying to lull people into a sense of well being and tell them that everything is OK. Of course the numbers are down, they are not detaining or deporting as many.

They never detained or deported many of them to begin with....They may lull some of the people some of the time but they can't lull all of the people all of the time.....It would be nice if they all do "flea" then I can say Hasta Lavista Baby!!!!!

A truly mind boggling statement given the state of the U.S. economy and job market over the past three years.


How can this paragraph be justified? If “migration” has ceased, why are remittances on the upswing? If people are going back home and huge numbers being “deported,” how can remittances have increased from the previous year? These questions deserve answers.

Remittances to Mexico are rebounding - More than $23 billion

Mexican immigrants living in the U.S. sent an estimated 8% more money back to relatives last year compared with 2010, thanks to an improving U.S. job market.

Mexico's remittances up 5.5 pct in 1st quarter

Nearly all the money comes from the U.S., where nearly 12 million Mexican citizens live.


MEXICO CITY

Mexico's central bank says the amount of money migrant workers sent home in the first quarter of 2011 increased by 5.5 percent compared to the same period last year.

The bank says remittances totaled just over $5 billion in the first three months of 2011, up from $4.8 billion in the first quarter of 2010.

The bank reported Monday on its website that remittances in March totaled $2 billion, a 4.8 percent increase over the same month last year. It is the sixth consecutive month that the bank has seen an increase in remittances after a drop that began in 2008.

Remittances are Mexico's second-largest source of foreign income after oil exports. Nearly all the money comes from the U.S., where nearly 12 million Mexican citizens live.
