A Union City man has been charged with attacking a husband and wife with a machete on Saturday and another city man was charged with attacking a man with a machete in a dispute over a girl yesterday, officials said.

Pablo G. Gutierrez, 48, of the 3700 block of Kennedy Boulevard, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and four counts of weapons offenses related to a machete in Saturday’s incident, the criminal complaint says.

Erick A. Ferrufino-Molina, 25, of 37th Street, is charged with aggravated assault and weapons offenses related to a machete in yesterday’s incident, that complaint says.

On Saturday police were called to Christ Hospital in Jersey City where then found the 40-year-old woman had suffered two cuts to her left arm that required 18 staples to close, Union City Police Chief Richard Molinari said. The 44-year-old husband suffered
a 12-inch superficial cut to his abdomen, Molinari said.

The victims told police that while having a gathering at their home on Fifth Street in Union City at 11:33 p.m., Gutierrez got into an argument with the husband before attacking the couple with the knife, Molinari said, adding that the pair identified Gutierrez who was later arrested at his home.

In yesterday’s incident the 20-year-old man and 17-year-old woman told police they were at 24th Street and Central Avenue at 2:52 a.m. when Ferrufino-Molina pulled up in a car and got out, Molinari said.

The two men got into a dispute over the 17-year-old who both apparently had relationships with and Ferrufino-Molina attacked the 20-year-old with a machete, cutting his lip, back and right hand, Molinari said, adding that the victim was taken to Hoboken University Hospital.

Gutierrez’s bail was set at $25,000 and Ferrufino-Molina’s at $40,000 when they made their first appearance on the charges in Central Judicial Processing court in Jersey City via video link from Hudson County jail in Kearny today.

In court, Ferrufino-Molina told the judge he is not in the country legally and the judge told him Immigration and Customs Enforcement would be notified.
