A Union City man charged earlier last month with trying to lure a 14-year-old girl into his car at a city school appeared in court Thursday on similar charges related to a 15-year-old girl, officials said.

Pedro P. Ponce, 31, of 24th Street, appeared in Central Judicial Processing court in Jersey City Thursday via video link from Hudson County jail in Kearny where he has been since his arrest on Feb. 6, officials said.

The undocumented alien was charged on Feb. 21 with stalking, endangering the welfare of a child and luring and enticing the 15-year-old, the criminal complaint says.

Ponce met the 15-year-old "after school dismissal on the street, making inappropriate comments and offers, and following her on numerous occasion," according to the new complaint. The complaint, which does not identify the school, says he also "advised her to get into his car for a ride."

In the first complaint, filed on Feb. 6, Ponce is charged with having gone to the Jose Marti Freshman Academy eight to 10 times, where he approached the 14-year-old and told her he wanted to be with her. The first complaint says he also sent messages to her on Facebook saying "Hi Baby," and he tried to lure her into his van at the school.

Ponce appeared in CJP on the first charges on Feb. 7 and his bail was set at $60,000 with a 10 percent cash option. He is being held on no bail on the new charges, an official at the jail said.

A court official said the 15-year-old came forward after learning of Ponce's arrest in connection to the 14-year-old.

Immigrations and Customs Enforcement has been notified of the arrest of the Ecuadorian native who appeared in CJP with the assistance of a Spanish interpreter.
