ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Blake’s Lotaburger is now working with the Department of Homeland Security to reduce the hiring of undocumented workers.

On Friday, the New Mexico restaurant chain signed an agreement with HSI, making it clear they’re taking steps to ensure they don’t hire illegal workers.

“It’s important because it’s protecting the community. We’re looking at not only hiring legal workers, but national security matters and it’s also putting the right workers into place and keeping those tax dollars here at home,” said Dennis Ulrich, HIS special agent in charge.

Blake’s is only the third business in New Mexico to sign the agreement.

Businesses that join forces with homeland security are trained in proper hiring procedures and given important employment screening tools.

Officials say the measure will help to keep the state’s economy strong.
