LAS CRUCES — An inmate at a New Mexico prison was deported to Mexico, where he is now facing a murder charge, according to the U.S. Marshals.

Last month, an El Paso investigator notified the U.S. Marshals’ office in Las Cruces that authorities were searching for Isaias Perez-Pineda, who was wanted in Mexico City on an aggravated homicide charge.

U.S. Marshals were able to locate Perez-Pineda at a prison in New Mexico, where he was serving time for illegally re-entering the U.S. The U.S. Marshals did not name the prison.

Prison authorities subsequently placed a hold on Perez-Pineda, which prevented him from being released from the prison.

Perez-Pineda was deported to Mexico without incident on Monday.
