U.S. Border Patrol officials are opening the doors to their newest station in southeastern Arizona.

The grand opening for the state-of-the-art Ajo station will be Tuesday morning. Tucson Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Manuel Padilla Jr. and other officials are scheduled to participate in the ceremony.

The station, less than 30 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border, is big enough to support about 500 agents. It has administrative space along with room for detaining people.

The Border Patrol says the area of responsibility for the Ajo station encompasses more than 64 miles along the international border and nearly 7,000 square miles in southeastern Arizona.
