New Stretch of Border Fence Almost Complete

BROWNSVILLE - A new stretch of border fence in Brownsville is almost finished, but some folks say it won't make a difference. They tell us people are finding a way into the United States no matter what.

Border Patrol agents say otherwise. They tell CHANNEL 5 NEWS it's a night and day difference and folks will start to see that.

Only a mile of the 18-foot tall fence is left to finish. Cameron County has a total of 34 miles of metal fence along Military Highway. It's an issue that doesn't sit well with folks on either side of the border. Many of the people we spoke to tell us they don't think it will even make a difference to smugglers or people trying to get over.

Daniel Milian, supervisor of public affairs for the U.S. Border Patrol, tells us that’s why it's their job to keep adapting. The wall is just another tool at their disposal.

Oh it makes a difference alright. It marks the border, it says keep out, and makes it more difficult to enter. It also makes it easier for Border Patrol to know where they're coming in if they damage the fence and to track them once they are in. It they can't damage the fence to get in and devise some means to scale over it, then that gives Border Patrol more time to catch them if they're patrolling the fence.

Fence = Good

Near completion = Very Good

We need an electric fence with bar wire on the top . That world al least slow them down.

We had been led to believe that there was no more fence under construction.

I'm glad to see that info is wrong.

The fense isn't a solution but its a small step. Yes they can go over as we constantly see, they can go under which we read about with drug tunnels, and they could also go through.

But it is a border marker that clearly defines the border. With that it can be used as such w/o the possible arguement of "accidentally" crossed cause my dog ran away or nonsense arguements. When further protections are done along the border is when its use will become seen but until then just makes them waste a couple minutes getting over.

I'm beginning to think the fence or even a wall is moot as long as we let our corporations hire these type of immigrants..you know, ILLEGAL ALIENS. They will tunnel and climb where enforcement lacks. Take away the magnets and they won't have any reason to come here. Fence building is a waste of resources when the real perpetrators are right here at home; the corporate a--wipes who circumvent the law and our traitorous leaders who won't enforce the law.
