Nigeria Immigration Service repatriates 631 illegal aliens to Niger Republic

The Nigeria Immigration Service, Sokoto State Command on Thursday said it had repatriated 631 illegal aliens to Niger Republic in 2014.

Yunusa Aliyu, the controller of the service in the state, said this at a news conference in Sokoto.

Aliyu said the aliens were deported due to lack of valid travel documents in line with the ECOWAS Protocol.

The controller said 501 Nigeriens were denied entry into the country, while 92 Nigerians were disallowed to enter Niger Republic due to lack of valid travel documents, poor economic status, under age and alleged human trafficking, among others.

On insurgency, the controller said 105 officers and men of the service were trained as border guards and deployed to parts of the state.

Aliyu said: “They were redeployed to three newly established border patrol posts in Gada, Tangaza and Sabon-Birni Local Government Areas.

“They are currently on a 24-hour border patrols to protect Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

“We want to make sure that citizens of other countries do not flock into Nigeria and cause problem.”

Aliyu also said that the command was holding a monthly border security meeting with its sister organisation in neigbhouring Niger Republic to brainstorm on security situation in the two countries.
