CINNAMINSON — A fight between two women broke out inside the Wawa on Church Road on Wednesday morning and turned bloody in the parking lot when one of the combatants stabbed the other several times with a box cutter, police said.

Kartelina Holt, 32, whom police described as an undocumented immigrant living in the Sicklerville section of Winslow, Camden County, was arrested shortly after she allegedly stabbed Ashley Anderson, 25, of Pennsauken, seven times, Detective Sgt. William Covert said.

The altercation began at 7:22 a.m. inside the store. Outside, Holt allegedly produced a box cutter and stabbed Anderson in the head, face and neck, Covert said.

Officers found the Pennsauken woman “bleeding profusely” on the ground between two vehicles in the parking lot. She was able to identify Holt, who was still nearby. Anderson was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden with numerous cuts. Her condition was not available Wednesday afternoon.

Holt was found walking on Church Road and was taken into custody without incident, Covert said. She admitted to stabbing the victim and tossing the box cutter into a wooded area across the street from the store, he said.

Officers and a police dog were seen searching the area Wednesday morning, but police did not say if the weapon was recovered.

Further investigation revealed Holt was an undocumented immigrant from Barbados, police said. Information was not available about how long she has been living in the United States.

Holt was charged with aggravated assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and tampering with evidence.

She was still being processed Wednesday afternoon but was expected to be placed in the Burlington County Minimum Security Facility in Pemberton Township. Her bail was set at $100,000, police said.

Police did not specify what prompted the incident, but noted that a man who accompanied Anderson tried to break up the altercation and was present in the parking lot when the stabbing occurred. He was not injured, Covert said.

The store remained open throughout the morning, with customers entering and exiting during the fight, Covert said.

“People were walking in to get coffee, like normal business,” he said.
