Ron Paul: U.S. treatment of illegal immigrants like Nazi treatment of Jews

In what is clearly a case of political pandering to the Hispanic vote in Nevada, Ron Paul compared the treatment of illegal immigrants to the Nazi treatment of the Jews, Politico reported Thursday.
According to Politico:
At a senior center in East Las Vegas, the Texas congressman told about 100 Hispanics that they have been unfairly made “scapegoats” for the country’s economic troubles. He said it’s “part of human nature” for newcomers to be shunned, but that prejudice toward outsiders worsens when unemployment is high. He said that illegal immigrants were being scapegoated in a manner similar to Jews in Nazi Germany because of tough economic times.“When things go badly, individuals look for scapegoats,” Paul said. “I just do not believe that barbed-wire fences or guns on our border will solve any of our problems."
But the treatment of illegal immigrants is nothing compared to what the Jews experienced at the hand of the Nazis.
During that time, Jews were stripped of the right to own private property, torn from their homes and forced into cramped, filthy ghettos by the government and ultimately sent to camps where millions were murdered by the government.
To suggest that illegal immigrants are being similarly treated is outrageous, even by Paul's "standards."
The Texas Congressman says he opposes illegal immigration and says those who break the law should be punished, but opposes efforts to round up and deport illegal immigrants.
“If an individual is found to be breaking the law, serious consideration should be given for them to return. But I would think 99 percent of people who come here come because they believe in the American dream,” Paul told the crowd.
Politico notes that Latinos make up a quarter of Nevada's population, so Paul could simply be pandering to attract votes.
James Hohmann adds:
Paul’s focus on winning over these voters also reflects his more professional operation compared with his presidential run in 2008, when he garnered 14 percent of the Nevada vote to finish second. He is trying to expand his traditional base of hard-core, small-government libertarians.
Paul hardly discussed the immigration issue on the trail in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. But he devoted almost half an hour to it at the Wednesday morning forum.

Jeez, what a load of CRAP! Not only that it's a slap in the face for any survivors still living and totally unacceptable. You can tell this guy didn't serve during WW II even though he looks old enough!
