NY - Illegal alien detained on Route 67 near Charlton pleads guilty to felony re-entr

ALBANY — Juan Luna Picazo, 38, of Biloxi, Miss., pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court to felony re-entry by a previously removed alien, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Luna Picazo, a citizen of Mexico, admitted in court that he was involuntarily removed from the United States on four separate occasions, the most recent being June 4, 2010.

On April 29, a Saratoga County sheriff’s deputy stopped and detained Luna Picazo on Route 67 near Charlton for traffic infractions. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Albany was contacted and subsequently arrested Luna Picazo as an illegal alien. ICE records show Luna Picazo has been arrested by Border Patrol and ICE after entering the United States illegally 12 times.

Luna Picazo is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 29 in Albany. He faces a maximum sentence of imprisonment for up to two years, supervised release for up to one year and a fine of up to $250,000.

The matter was investigated by the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Albany and the Saratoga County sheriff’s offices.
