Major Welfare Fraud In Orleans County

(13WAHM) Albion, N.Y. - Sheriff's deputies in Orleans County say a woman raked in more than $46,000 in a welfare fraud case.

Mary Cruz, 32, allegedly managed to get the money by claiming fraudulent day care benefits over a 3-year period.

Officers who searched her home also found Rochel Carrillo-Ramos, 24, who allegedly re-entered the U.S. after being deported.

Police say more charges and arrests are pending.

Albion woman faces welfare fraud charges

An Albion woman has been charged with illegally collecting nearly $47,000 in welfare benefits.

An Orleans County Major Felony Crime Task Force investigation has led to the arrests of Mary A. Cruz, 32, Rochel Carrillo-Ramos, 24, and Marvin Ramirez-Tomas, 32, all of 14870 East Lee Rd.

Cruz has been charged with one count each of welfare fraud and grand larceny. She was arraigned and committed to jail on $10,00 cash or bond.

Carrillo-Ramos and Ramirez-Tomas were taken into federal custody and are being held on a federal detainer for illegal re-entry into the United States after deportation.
