Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), one of the most relentless critics of the Obama administration’s immigration directives, is taking over the Senate’s panel that oversees immigration, according to three sources familiar with the decision.
Sessions is set to assume the chairmanship of the Senate Subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees and Border Security, according to the sources — giving the conservative a key platform to advance his immigration policies. Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), a new member of the Judiciary Committee, is going to be the panel’s vice chair, the sources said.

The subcommittee chairmanship is a consolation prize of sorts for the Alabaman, who gave up his bid to become the Senate Budget Committee chairman when Sen. Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.) exerted his seniority over Sessions on that panel. Sessions had been the top Republican on the committee for four years and had been expected to take over the chairmanship until Enzi made his move.

But Sessions is also well-known for his advocacy on stricter immigration controls and aggressive pushback against President Barack Obama’s executive actions on immigration, pushing fellow Republicans toward a more confrontational stance on the issue. Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-Texas) had been the top Republican on the subcommittee when Democrats controlled the Senate. He’s set to take over the Judiciary subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Human Rights. The subcommittee chairman under Democrats was New York Sen. Chuck Schumer.
Sessions’ office and a committee aide did not comment on the decision.

This is really very good news, and we all know Jeff Sessions will do a great job with his committee chairmanship. It won't solve the problem but it will allow him to highlight the facts about this travesty and the adverse impact of illegal immigration on the American People and the United States. All Republicans need to rally behind him and his efforts to stop this disaster and roll back the adverse consequences that we all know are hurting Americans and bankrupting our government.

Jeff Sessions Named Chairman Of Senate Immigration Panel, Renames Panel

    by Matthew Boyle
    22 Jan 2015
    Washington, DC

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) is now chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Immigration, his office announced in a Thursday release. Sen. David Vitter (R-LA)—another immigration hardliner who’s stood with Sessions every step of the way over the past several years—will serve as that subcommittee’s deputy chairman.

Sessions will also chair the Senate Armed Services Committee’s Strategic Forces Subcommittee. This announcement comes after Sessions, who was in line to chair the full Senate Budget Committee, stepped aside to allow Sen. Mike Enzi (R-WY) to chair it. Enzi asserted seniority, even though Sessions has been ranking member for the last four years. Sessions and Enzi were elected to the U.S. Senate on the same day, but Enzi technically due to the luck of the draw.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to chair these two crucial subcommittees,” Sessions said in his statement, before detailing what he will do with each subcommittee.

As chairman of the Immigration Subcommittee, Sessions said his focus “will be to advance the core interests of the nation and its people” over the interests of lobbyists, special interests and illegal aliens.

“On no issue have special interests had a tighter grip than on the issue of immigration,” Sessions said, noting his first action as chairman will be renaming the subcommittee to a much more fitting name.

That is why I am renaming the subcommittee “Immigration and the National Interest,” as a declaration to the American people that this subcommittee belongs to them. Senator Vitter, a strong voice for the national interest, will be serving as Republican Deputy Chairman. The financial and political elite have been controlling this debate for years; this subcommittee will give voice to those whose voice has been shut out: the voice of the dedicated immigration officers who have been blocked from doing their jobs; the voice of the working families whose wages have been reduced by years of record immigration; the voice of the American IT workers who are being replaced with guest workers; the voice of the parents who are worried about their schools and hospitals; and the voice of all Americans who believe we must have a lawful system of immigration they can be proud of and that puts their interests first.

Vitter said in a statement that it’s time to make life difficult for illegal aliens in America.

“Border security enforcement will be my top priority on the Judiciary Committee – and specifically as Deputy Chair of the immigration subcommittee,” Vitter said. “Living in the U.S. illegally will become more difficult and less satisfying over time when the government – at all levels – enforces the laws already on the books. I’m looking forward to working on legislation to secure our border and stop our self-inflicted illegal immigration crisis.”

Other members of the Sessions subcommittee will be: Sens. David Perdue (R-GA)—who signed the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) pledge against amnesty on the campaign trail—full Judiciary Committee chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Mike Lee (R-UT) and Thom Tillis (R-NC). Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn, a Texas Republican, will also serve on the subcommittee under Sessions.

Sessions said the “first urgent task” for the subcommittee in standing up to special interests on immigration “is for the Senate GOP to rally the nation behind an effort to halt the President’s unlawful amnesty.”

Additionally, there is a great deal of misinformation about what actions must actually be taken to create a sound immigration system. Our subcommittee will seek to serve all members, and the public, as a hub for the facts, data, statistics, and evidence they can rely upon for honest information. I became a prosecutor believing that there is a truth, and that a proper analysis of the facts will lead us to that truth. The challenge is large but the task is just, and rests on the solid moral foundation of our citizens’ legitimate demands. I look forward to working with my colleagues towards this end.

Sessions has already challenged a border bill from House Homeland Security Committee chairman Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX)—which McCaul frames as the “strongest” border security bill in the history of the U.S. Congress ever—as feckless. Rep. David Brat (R-VA) backed Sessions up, and called McCaul’s bill a “Trojan Horse” for an eventual amnesty in a radio interview on Thursday.

As Chairman of the Armed Services Strategic Forces Subcommittee, Sessions said he will focus on “ensuring a modernized nuclear arsenal, strengthening our ballistic missile defense programs, advancing our space program, producing an American-built rocket engine to end U.S. dependence on Russia’s RD-180, and developing the technology and strategies necessary to deter any aggression, including cyber-attacks, against the United States or her interests.”

“America faces a litany of global threats and emerging dangers; it is more important than ever to have the most sophisticated and cost-effective defense programs that deliver the capabilities promised,” Sessions said about that subcommittee.

Sen. Sessions issued the following statement today after being named Chairman of two important subcommittees: the Strategic Forces Subcommittee of Armed Services and the Immigration Subcommittee of Judiciary:

“I am honored to have the opportunity to chair these two crucial subcommittees.

My focus as Chairman of the Strategic Forces subcommittee will include: ensuring a modernized nuclear arsenal, strengthening our ballistic missile defense programs, advancing our space program, producing an American-built rocket engine to end U.S. dependence on Russia’s RD-180, and developing the technology and strategies necessary to deter any aggression, including cyber-attacks, against the United States or her interests.

America faces a litany of global threats and emerging dangers; it is more important than ever to have the most sophisticated and cost-effective defense programs that deliver the capabilities promised.

My focus as Chairman of the Immigration subcommittee will be to advance the core interests of the nation and its people. On no issue have special interests had a tighter grip than on the issue of immigration.

That is why I am renaming the subcommittee ‘Immigration and the National Interest,’ as a declaration to the American people that this subcommittee belongs to them. Our first urgent task in this regard is for the Senate GOP to rally the nation behind an effort to halt the President’s unlawful amnesty.

What Jeff Sessions Needs to Understand About the Immigration Debate
    By Reihan Salam
    January 22, 2015 4:58 PM

Last summer, Eliana Y. Johnson dubbed Alabama senator Jeff Sessions “Amnesty’s Worst Enemy” in her excellent, wide-ranging profile, and now Sessions has been installed as the new chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees, and Border Security. Naturally, those who favor sharply increased immigration levels are displeased. Though I don’t agree with Sessions in every respect, I’m sympathetic to his broad viewthat now is not the ideal time to increase immigration, particularly less-skilled immigration. One of the things we as a country are learning the hard way is that workers with limited skills face gloomy economic prospects, and that they often need expensive support to enter the economic mainstream. Their children, meanwhile, face severe disadvantages as they attempt to climb the economic ladder. The usual rejoinder from those who favor mass immigration is that less-skilled immigrants are better off than they would have been in their native countries, which is generally true, particularly if we completely discount the psychic costs of displacement and the at times problematic impact on the families and communities immigrants leave behind. To Sessions’s credit, he is of the view that we ought to evaluate immigration policies in light of whether or not the serve the national interest — indeed, he plans to rename his subcommittee to that effect.

Recently, Sessions observed that “the financial and political elite have been controlling this debate for years” and that ”this subcommittee will give voice to those whose voice has been shut out.” I’d offer one minor caveat. It’s clearly true that “the financial and political elite,” and particularly employer lobbies with an interest in suppressing wage growth, whether in agribusiness or in high-tech, have had outsized influence on the immigration debate. (A few weeks ago, Danny Crichton wrote an excellent column on why Silicon Valley engineers are deeply skeptical of the pro-immigration arguments made by prominent venture capitalists.) But the immigration debate has also been dominated by a far more sympathetic constituency, namely immigrants and their families. This is a big part of why an incredible 66 percent of permanent immigrants to the U.S. are selected not on the basis of their skills, but rather on the basis of family ties. Immigration advocates will at times pay lip service to the need to move towards an immigration policy that is driven more by economic needs than immigrant pressure groups, yet all efforts to limit family-based immigration meet with intense resistance.

The central political challenge facing Sessions and other lawmakers who hope to craft animmigration policy more in tune with the national interest is that while only 22 percent of Americans want to increase immigration levels, according to Gallup, those who do favor increased immigration levels, many of whom are immigrants themselves, are more intensely engaged in the immigration debate than the 41 percent of Americans who want to decrease them. Somehow, Sessions needs to find a way to talk about immigration that takes into account the interests of immigrants and their families. In my own writing, I often emphasize that new immigrants compete with older immigrants with similar skills, many of whom are still struggling to make their way into the middle class. This doesn’t change the fact that immigrants overwhelmingly favor high immigration levels, just as New Yorkers and San Franciscans enraged by high rents often favor limits on housing development. Nevertheless, talking about the interests of less-skilled immigrants currently residing in the United States, their extremely low market incomes, and the labor-intensive services their families need to lead lives Americans would consider decent, is a very good way of undermining the claim that the desire to limit less-skilled immigration is somehow heartless.

Some folks have strong opinions about Gutierrez.
Racist Commie Luis Gutierrez Attacks Patriot Jeff Sessions’ Immigration Subcommittee Chairmanship

Posted on 23 January, 2015 by Rick Wells

Aside from being a bigoted anti-American activist, Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) is behaving in a manner not unlike a freshman school girl meeting the senior starting quarterback at a high school dance in the way he smiles disturbingly into the camera at the start of the video. In spite of his apparent aversion to testosterone, the wormy little communist community organizer has no problem attacking a real man, one who represents the citizens of America irrespective of their color or national origin, one who is a patriotic defender of our Constitution and our way of life, Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama.

The tactic of Gutierrez is the tried and true divide and conquer, belittling the selection of Sessions as a concession to “the racists of the south.” He warns the Republicans that there is more to the United States than just the south and that they “better have a vision and a manner in which they can approach the rest of the American population.”

The Congressional cockroach says, “I don’t think Sessions is going to lead them there. You know Sessions; he’s pretty secure in his position but is that all you want? Is to control the Senate and to never have a national party again? I think that’s the real question the Republican Party has to ask itself.”

It appears that Gutierrez might be concerned that his and Hussein Obama’s illegality may be meeting with a real challenge, so he’s attempting to diminish the stature of his opponent.

The entire concept of the rule of law and the Constitution is lost on this dishonest communist organizer. The issue is one of our country and the citizens, which is a standard that is much higher than party loyalty. For this clown, the oath he took was a meaningless theatrical exercise and nothing more.

Gutierrez makes more of the same tired arguments against enforcing our borders that help him and the host manipulate the American people and our government as they continue on with the mechanics of their invasion. They don’t want border security; they don’t even want America to have borders. What they want is an open North American continent where all of us are equal, at a much lower standard of living.

That equality naturally won’t extend to the ruling class, such as the host and Gutierrez. They will not be forced to live under the same authoritarianism as they seek for the rest of us. Otherwise, the elites would have no foot soldiers.

Their vision for the United States is membership in a North American version of the Soviet Union; and they’re having success. They owe it largely to the efforts of traitorous enemies of the the American people such as Gutierrez, one of the swarm of government cockroaches from the State of Illinois.

Wake up, America. This man isn't a "communist", this dangerous charade he's going through has nothing to do with his core beliefs, because he clearly doesn't have any, he's just a guy on the take, delivering the speeches his Paypals are paying him to make. He's a native born American whose family was from Puerto Rico. He has no identity or history with these immigrants other than when his family moved back to Puerto Rico he learned ... Spanish. So he speaks Spanish as a second language. Big deal. All of this is to settle some psychological problem he developed when he was growing up, they lived in an immigrant community in Chicago where whites called him names, and when his family moved back to Puerto Rico, the Puerto Ricans called him a Gringo. So when he returned to the US later on, he majored in English.

He's a guy with psychological and emotional issues, the perfect hack for the cartels to hire on to be a mouthpiece for amnesty for illegal aliens, a guy who doesn't see himself as an American, but something else, so he's in revenge mode showing other Americans how much he can hurt our country to get even for childhood name-calling while lining his own pockets.

The cartels prey on the weak, wounded, wannabes, and that's all Luis Gutierrez is or ever will be.
