Obama tells Mexico: Illegal-immigrant children won’t get to stay

Tells Peña Nieto their countries must work to halt child surge

    By Dave Boyer
    The Washington Times
    Thursday, June 19, 2014

President Obama told his Mexican counterpart in a phone call Thursday that immigrants crossing into the U.S. illegally won’t qualify for legalized status or deferred deportation, including children.

The White House said Mr. Obama and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto discussed “a regional strategy” to address the surge of unaccompanied children coming from Central America, through Mexico, to the U.S.

With thousands of children trying to enter the U.S. illegally in recent months, Vice President Joseph R. Biden will visit Guatemala on Friday.

Mr. Biden will warn officials and parents that illegal immigration is dangerous and that youth won’t be allowed to stay in the U.S.

The administration says the new influx of child immigrants is due to rampant poverty and violence in countries such as Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala.

Critics of the administration, and people immigrating illegally, say the immigrants are drawn by the administration’s policies, including Mr. Obama’s program of “deferred action” on deporting youth.

In the phone conversation, Mr. Obama “welcomed the opportunity to work in close cooperation with Mexico to develop concrete proposals to address the root causes of unlawful migration from Central America,” the White House said.

He also discussed the two nations’ “shared responsibility for promoting security in both countries and in the region.”

The White House said Mr. Obama encouraged the Mexican president to work with the U.S. to return illegal immigrant children safely to their families in Central America.

Obama to Mexican President: No Amnesty for Illegals

by Tony Lee 20 Jun 2014, 3:16 AM PDT
    breitbart

President Barack Obama told Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto in a Thursday phone conversation that illegal immigrant children who are flooding across the U.S.-Mexico border will not be eligible for amnesty.

But illegal immigrants are not buying it, especially in light of Obama's actions and words.

A day before Vice President Joe Biden's speech in Guatemala on Friday that will address the border crisis, Obama spoke to Peña Nieto to reiterate "that arriving migrants will not qualify for legalization under proposed immigration reform legislation or deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA)," according to a White House readout.

Obama and Peña Nieto also discussed "working together to return the children safely to their families and to build Central American capacity to receive returned individuals" because the the nations had a "shared responsibility for promoting security in both countries and in the region."

But Obama -- with the help of Republicans -- continues to push amnesty legislation that illegal immigrants believe will allow them to remain in America if they make it across the border in time. In addition, Obama has unilaterally enacted the Deferred Action temporary amnesty program and has threatened to ease deportations with executive actions. That is why illegal immigrants are actually flagging down Border Patrol agents, hoping they will receive what they believe are "permits" to remain indefinitely in the United States.

This week, the White House even honored 10 activists who received temporary amnesty under DACA in a "Champions of Change" ceremony in what critics said was a "tone deaf" celebration that would only lure more illegal immigrants to come to America.

Rep. Candice Miller (R-MI) said by "flaunting the success stories of ten immigrant children who entered the U.S. illegally," the White House is only enticing more illegal immigrants to strive to the next amnesty recipients.

“How can we expect to dispel rumors throughout Central America that children who enter America illegally will be allowed to stay while simultaneously touting the success stories of a few illegal immigrant children granted de facto amnesty by the administration?" Miller said. "The sad truth is that most of the children being smuggled across the border today, in unprecedented numbers, will not have similar success stories."

Obama and the Mexican President also spoke about the dangers illegal immigrants from Central America face during their journey, but Obama has been accused of exploiting illegal immigrant children and putting them in that danger with his actions and rhetoric.

Law enforcement officials have warned the White House that Obama's more lenient policies regarding illegal immigrants is in part fueling the border crisis. They also informed Senators last year that passing the Senate's comprehensive immigration reform bill, which would allow a pathway to citizenship for all of the country's illegal immigrants, would lure even more illegal immigrants to the country.

"Driven by mere speculation that S. 744 may be enacted by Congress, illegal border crossings have spiked dramatically," they wrote in 2013. "Thousands of unaccompanied children, runaways, and families now attempt to illegally enter the United States in hopes of receiving legalization."

As Breitbart News reported, the law enforcement officials also warned legislators that "this trend will surely continue after enactment as S. 744 provides no commitment of stronger border enforcement for at least five to ten years following the initial legalization phase."
