    COLUMBUS, Ohio --
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a Panamanian national who is wanted on federal charges of re-entering the U.S. after being deported as an aggravated felon, identity theft and document fraud.

ICE is seeking the whereabouts of Daniel Arturo Batista, 32, who has an outstanding criminal arrest warrant issued by the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Ohio. Batista, a Panamanian national, has a last known address of 5521 Thumbleweed Drive in Galloway, Ohio. He was recently employed as a cable installer in the local Columbus area.

Batista has an extensive criminal history that includes arrests for burglary, kidnapping, rape, discharging a weapon, resisting arrest, theft and drugs. He has served time in prison in Georgia for burglary and in Ohio for sex offenses. ICE agents located Batista on May 29, 2008 at his Galloway residence and advised him that he was under arrest. Batista resisted arrest and fled the scene. Batista has distinguishing tattoos on both of his arms: a cross with flowers on his right, upper arm and a tribal band on his left, upper arm.

Members of the public with information on Batista are encouraged to call the Columbus ICE office at 614-469-5705 during normal business hours, or the Law Enforcement Support Center at 866-347-2423 afterhours, or local police authorities.

    How did he escape?

Are ICE agents, like border patrol agents, limited in their authority to counteract or respond with force? From his history, Batista sounds like a dangerous public threat.
