PA - Mural About Deportation Painted In Front Of Immigration And Customs Enforcement

    By Justin Udo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Artists painted a mural with a focus on deportation on the street in front of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in Philadelphia Monday night.

You have to look down on the ground to see the 90 foot mural on Callowhill Street between 16th and 17th street that reads:

“We’re laying down the words we are human beings risking our lives for our family and our future.”

Michelle Ortiz the murals lead artists says part of the goal of this project is to humanize the immigration process.

“That phase comes from one of the women who is a mother her and her daughter were detained at the Burks detention center.”

Olivia Vazquez is an undocumented immigrant who has lived in the United States for 11 years.

She says she came out to help paint the mural in an effort to show others the struggle of the immigrant.

“People don’t leave their country just because they want to,” says Vazquez. “They leave out of necessity and they leave to give their family a better life

Four more of these murals are being painted around the city.

As a native Philadelphia artist, I will say the mural art group has been out of hand for quiet some time; coming into neighborhoods and painting murals that have nothing to do with the community there or exclusive to certain groups of peoples. They do not speak for Philadelphians but for the motives of the sanctuary city groups in power via the Democratic party and it will continue no doubt. Ask them how many murals they have painted depicting European Americans or of our founding fathers in this birthplace city that made this country so desirable to SNEAK into. website http://www.muralarts.org/

They should not be involved in statements re law breaking via illegal immigration as they are a .org. Email the mayor michael.nutter@phila.gov to complain of slanted politicizing improperly by a .org associated with phila.gov

What is the matter with patriots? Are they unable to afford a can of paint? Are they unable to uses brushes to cover over this crap?

That amnesty crap should have not had enough time to dry before some patriot painted over it.

There should be no murals. This street art is ridiculous. Businesses are regulated heavily by what signage they can put on their businesses, the size, the height, the wording, and so forth. Some businesses are prohibited from flags and so forth as well. Yet people who aren't even supposed to be in our country can just walk around and paint some hideous mural on someone's property, that is for all practical and legal purposes illegal graffiti, and nobody does anything about it?

Exterior murals should be banned. If you want a mural, then buy or rent a building and have at it. Otherwise, you're just freeloading trespassers violating zoning codes on top of violating US immigration law.

The Patriots will be arrested for vandalism, trespass, graffiti, and hate crimes before they can shake their can and get their ladders set up. What's going on in our country is runaway criminal activity by a group of Untouchables because they and their backers have all these city officials on the take with the drug cartels behind this travesty.

Unfortunately, the mural arts program is part of the City of Philadelphia and our tax dollars are used to pay the org and the artists - therefore the outrage at this slanted street mural and 3 more are proposed. The website shows a hispanic woman and child painted in the actual courtyard of City Hall with the family theme thing. Take your family to your own country! This is just another ploy to brainwash for amnesty, no deportations. It is a political stance!

This is a Democratic party backed sanctuary city and this is only a small part of what the citizenry has to bear. Would like to see the program paint in huge letters the Constitution and the words of what is required and expected of those desiring citizenship and being an American. BTW - you cannot paint a mural on your own property without paying a fee and consent of the city and yes you would be arrested and fined when they viewed the video tape spilling paint over a "city mural" outside of the Immigration Center or any other place they have video access of.

Our mayor is a lame duck with James Kenny waiting in the wings - he already stated he will forego federal monies rather than abandon sanctuary city status. Once again a Democratic party machine & the Republican party does not produce viable contestants.

Kenney is the worst - his ideas are out there. A few years back we had a great patriot, Joey Vento, owner of Geno's steaks, a 24/7 cheese steak place with celebrity signed photos everywhere. As you ordered, you looked at a sign, This is America, speak english when ordering or press one for english and two for deportation. Well, he was hauled before a city agency to explain his supposed prejudices. It was conducted at a Friends Quaker facility (you know Ben Franklin, Wm Penn, Quakers, spoke in thee and thou and did not allow any discrimination by race, creed etc) and was aired live on radio. Joey was perfecto and all charges dropped. Kenney lives withing a few blocks of that sign and was a councilman at large at that time. hmmm.....
