LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An LMPD officer who suspected a man was trying to steal a catalytic converter late Wednesday ended up making two arrests on entirely different charges.
According to the arrest report, around 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 19 LMPD officers noticed a man and a woman "crawl beneath an International truck and remain there for several minutes." The truck was parked outside a restaurant in the 5000 block of Preston Highway that was surrounded on three sides by a chain link fence.
The officers ordered the man -- identified as 39-year-old Antonio Perez -- to put his hands in the air, but he reached for a "balled up red sweatshirt" instead. That's when police say they tried to arrest Perez, but he put up a fight. After several minutes, Perez was taken into custody.
As he was being questioned, police say Perez admitted he had offered the woman -- 21-year-old Breonna Buckman -- $20 for sex. The arrest report says Perez's "pants were undone, exposing himself."
During a search, officers found marijuana in his front pocket, but no identification. Police say Perez told them he was an illegal immigrant and had no government ID.
Police say Buckman also told them she was there to have sex for money. According to police, Buckman was wanted in Nelson County on an outstanding warrant and had a marijuana pipe in her jacket pocket.
Perez is charged with tampering with physical evidence, resisting arrest, criminal trespassing, and possession of marijuana; Buckman is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal trespassing and loitering.
