Pickup Loaded With Illegal Immigrants Crashes
Posted 5/3/2006
A pickup truck packed with illegal immigrants rolled near Interstate-19 Wednesday morning.
The driver veered off the highway and onto Pima Mine Road exit when he saw a Border Patrol car.
Investigators say the driver was going too fast, and the vehicle was overloaded.
Fourteen people were in it.
The driver ran into the desert and is still at large.
Everyone else was treated for their injuries.

2 in rollover held by Border Patrol
DAVID L. TEIBEL
Tucson Citizen
Two men involved in a multi-injury rollover on Interstate 19 this morning have been taken into custody by U.S. Border Patrol agents who say they are Mexican citizens here illegally.
Two other people were seriously hurt in the crash, 10 sustained minor injuries and one ran into the desert and had not been found by 9 a.m., said Border Patrol Agent Gustavo Soto.
The Ford extended-cab pickup crashed about 5 a.m. after a Border Patrol agent on patrol spotted it heading north, pulled up along side and the pickup driver suddenly veered off the interstate at Pima Mine Road, lost control of the truck and it rolled, Soto said.
The agent had not turned on his emergency lights and siren and there was no pursuit, Soto said.
The agent immediately called for more border patrol agents, state Department of Public Safety officer and ambulances and then began giving medical aid to the victims, Soto said.
Soto said he did not know the immigration status of any of the injured people, they had not been questioned by mid-morning as they still were being treated at Tucson area hospitals. Soto would not release the names of the two men in custody as an investigation continues.
If a records check shows the two men are not wanted for any other crimes in the United States they will be offered the chance to voluntarily return to Mexico, Soto said. They are not suspected of being alien smugglers, he said.
The state Department of Public Safety, which is investigating the truck crash, said early today that all the on and off ramps at Pima Mine Road were closed. Soto said only the northbound exit ramp had been closed to traffic.

They should be charged with conspiracy. That is what Sheriff Arpaio is doing up in Phoenix, but noooo. The Feds don't do anything to them except drive them back to the border to re-offend the next day.
