July 15, 2012 (CHICAGO) (WLS) -- As Election Day approaches a big push to get out the vote is underway in Chicago.

Congressman Luis Gutierrez attended a rally Saturday at Benito Juarez High School, organized by the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights.

The goal is to mobilize voters and register new ones.

Organizers say they want to showcase the power of the immigrant vote.

There were also workshops on the new rules protecting certain young immigrants from the threat of deportation.

It is a FELONY for immigrants or illegal immigrants to register to vote and another FELONY if they actually do vote. Only US Citizens are allowed to vote and thus the title of this article is misleading.
