A Mexican man attacked a Border Patrol agent last week after a high-speed chase near Donna, forcing the agent to shock him with a Taser, according to federal court records.

At about 4:55 p.m. Thursday, a Chevrolet Tahoe nearly hit a Border Patrol vehicle near the McManus Ranch -- an area "notorious for undocumented aliens and narcotic crossing," according to federal court records.

A Border Patrol agent attempted to stop the Tahoe.

After a brief high-speed chase, Roberto Flores-Cayetano jumped from the Tahoe and started running, according to thecriminal complaint against him.

The Border Patrol agent caught up after Flores tripped.

"Agent Hernandez advised Flores-Cayetano to stay on the ground and to put his hands behind his back, but he refused," according to the criminal complaint.

When Flores stood up and attempted to keep running, the Border Patrol agent grabbed him by the shirt.

Flores started throwing elbows at the Border Patrol agent, who warned him to stop resisting arrest, according to the criminal complaint. Flores finally stopped struggling after the agent shocked him with a Taser.

While the Border Patrol agent struggled with Flores, a passenger riding in the Tahoe grabbed the steering wheel.

The passenger drove for about 200 yards before running into the brush, leaving behind nearly 524 pounds of marijuana, according to the criminal complaint.

Border Patrol searched the area, but didn't find the passenger.

Agents turned Flores over to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for questioning.

"Flores-Cayetano stated he agreed with an unknown individual to transport the bundles of marijuana from the Rio Grande riverbank to an unknown location in Donna, Texas," according to the criminal complaint. "Flores-Cayetano started the unidentified subjected offered him $1,000 to transport the marijuana."

Magistrate Judge Peter E. Ormsby charged Flores with possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.

Flores remains in federal custody. His attorney couldn't be reached for comment Monday.
