Rep. Peter King: Amnesty Does Not Make the Country Safer

    Wednesday, February 18, 2015 11:10 AM

    By: Melissa Clyne

Rep. Peter King of New York scoffed at President Barack Obama's statement earlier this month that amnesty will make the country "safer."

"It doesn't make us safer," King said Wednesday on Newsmax TV's "America's Forum."

"His convoluted reasoning is that everyone is going to come forward and identify themselves as being here. Does anyone think a criminal is going to come forward and acknowledge who he is? It's a game he's playing."

It's interesting that he's so confident in what the appellate court is going to do, but he himself said 22 different times that he did not have the power to do this," King said. "The president lost credibility on this issue."

King said he "saluted" the federal judge in Texas who ruled that the president's executive order deferring deportation for millions of illegal immigrants in the U.S. — by granting them de facto amnesty — was a violation of the Constitution.

"This was such an overreach by President Obama," King said. "It's unconstitutional. It was a direct defiance of the United States Congress saying that this president is going to do whatever he wants no matter what."

Also on Wednesday, King said he has confidence in the ability of Texas Rep. Mike McCaul, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, to address the issue of weeding out jihadists who may be among Syrian refugees coming to the United States.

"We've made this mistake with Iraqi refugees [for] several years and we run the risk of doing it now with Syria, especially when we have an administration which seems to have a cavalier approach toward security and immigration," King said. "Mike McCaul is entirely on mark here and I expect him, as the chairman ... [to carry] out investigations and hearings. He's very much onto this."

Last month, committee members sent the president a letter warning that the resettlement plan for Syrian refugees "raises serious national security concerns."

As many as 2,000 Syrian refugees are expected to be resettled in the U.S. this year, and potentially thousands more in 2016 in an effort led by the State Department.

That is so stupid of him. I've lost all respect for Peter King because of his support for "comprehensive immigration reform". Our borders will never be "secure", which is why our interior must be secure. That means no anchor baby citizenship, no chain migration, no tax refunds for illegal aliens for illegal returns filed reporting illegal wages by illegal workers, and no welfare or public benefits of any kind including public education. So many want to blame our employers, and yes, those who hire illegal aliens should most certainly be sought out, prosecuted and put in jail. But the primary culprits in this travesty are the illegal aliens themselves and our rogue government breaking US immigration law. If illegal aliens weren't here, employers couldn't hire them. Illegal aliens will go home the day you cut off public benefits because like Americans, they can't live on low wages alone any easier than Americans. So stop the Medicaid for pregnancies, stop automatic birthright citizenship for children of illegal aliens, stop welfare, tax credits and food stamp payments, and oh my god, stop educating their children at taxpayer expense.
