SAN DIEGO -- Officials from one North County city are discussing a plan to broadcast English classes on the municipal cable station, according to a published report.

The North County Times reported that Escondido's City Council will vote on Tuesday on the proposal, as well as on whether to fund it. The vote would take place at the same council meeting at which members will decide whether to give final approval to an ordinance to fine landlords who rent to illegal immigrants, according to the paper.

The City Council is expected to pass the measure that would fine landlords.

The proposed English-instruction broadcasts, which would be run five days a week and air as many as five times a day, would cost the city several thousand dollars, the North County Times reported.
