Brewer: Securing border still must come first
Published 3:07 p.m., Friday, November 9, 2012
Associated Press
PHOENIX (AP) — Gov. Jan Brewer says she's leery of post-election talk about a possible compromise on illegal immigration that'd include securing the border and providing legal status to immigrants in the country illegally.
Brewer says in statement issued Friday that she recalls the 1986 compromise that provided legal status to millions while making unkept promises to secure the border.
Brewer says the first step now still needs to be securing the border.
She says once that's done, the next step can be to jointly pursue ways to fix what she calls the "broken immigration system." She says that could be done in a way that's effective, practical and humane.
Brewer didn't specifically refer to any individual's statements, but U.S. House Speaker John Boehner earlier Friday said it's time to change U.S. immigration policies.
Boehner called on President Barack Obama to take the lead in coming up with a plan to address the estimated 11 million people living in the country illegally.

Securing the border to give false assurances to the American public to pass amnesty will fail.
If Amnesty is given and illegals are allowed to stay for any reason, they will eventually vote for candidates that will stop all border security and immigration enforcement.
The "Secure the border first" slogan is a Globalist ruse to get Americans to swallow deadly amnesty.

OK, but IMO being against illegal immigration would be more appealing to more people if we coupled opposition to amnesty with a call for a jobs program for Americans. Exit polls show that the economy - i.e., jobs - is a real concern for many Americans. Patriots would be wise to show that we understand that concern.
E-Verify can be an important element of a jobs program.
