Release Date: May 10, 2021

EDINBURG, Texas –Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley arrested two migrants with serious criminal history.

On Saturday, Weslaco Border Patrol Station agents arrested a male Ecuadorian national near McAllen, Texas. Record Checks revealed the migrant had a conviction for murder in furtherance of narcotics trafficking. He was previously arrested in Brooklyn, New York, and was sentenced to seven years confinement and five year’s supervised release for the crime. The noncitizen has also been previously removed from the United States.

Yesterday, Brownsville Border Patrol Station agents apprehended a group of nine migrants in Brownsville, Texas. During processing, agents discovered that one noncitizen, identified as Eleuterio Sanchez-Rivera, a Mexican national, had a prior arrest by the McAllen Police Department in 2002, for indecency with a child sexual contact. He was convicted and sentenced to two years confinement.
RGV agents have encountered over 1,100 criminal migrants this fiscal year.

Border Patrol processed both subjects accordingly.

Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation. The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements.
