Rush Limbaugh: GOP 'Authoring Its Demise' With Immigration Reform Bill

Establishment Republicans have no idea that their support of the Senate's immigration reform bill has so angered their own voters it threatens the party's existence, says conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh.

"The establishment of this party is authoring its demise," Limbaugh said on his show Monday. "I honestly think that the Republican establishment doesn't know what awaits it regarding this issue. ... Maybe they do and they just don't care."

Republican leaders know there's opposition from their base for the legislation to offer a pathway to citizenship, Limbaugh said, but don't realize the full depth. Many, like Limbaugh himself, are doubtful Congress will keep its word to enforce border security before legalizing those already here.

"I don't think they have the slightest idea how deep the anger at the current thinking, as expressed by supposedly smart Republican establishment people, exists," he said. "I don't think they have any idea how deep it is in towns large and small all across this country."

Some members of the Republican "establishment" are saying "they are loved now, that the Hispanics get us now," Limbaugh said. "It's a fantasy like I've not seen in a long time."

More people have begun talking about a third party, he noted. Sarah Palin, who ran as vice president under immigration reform supporter Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said she's open to starting a new party for disaffected Republicans.

Limbaugh has warned for years against creating a third party because it would essentially put Democrats in control of government.

"If that happens," he said Monday, "you can kiss the Republican Party goodbye."

LIMBAUGH: VERY BAD NEWS FOR REPUBLICANS

'They're being skunked on issue after issue after issue'

    07/02/2013 JOE KOVACS

PALM BEACH, Fla. – Radio powerhouse Rush Limbaugh is warning Republicans they could lose their majority in the U.S. House of Representatives because they’re being “skunked” on key issues such as immigration.

“Absolutely it’s possible,” the politically right-leaning Limbaugh said during a phone appearance Tuesday morning on “Fox & Friends.” “Because the Republicans are in the process of engaging in policies guaranteed to lose them elections.”

“The Republicans are sitting around twiddling their thumbs worried about immigration and whether the Hispanics like them or not, and they’re being skunked on issue after issue after issue,” he added, sounding the alarm bell about the result of the GOP losing their majority.

“If the Democrats win the House, then there’s no such thing as a lame duck, last two years for Obama. He’s got clear sailing.”

On his radio program Monday, Limbaugh noted, “The establishment of this [Republican] party is authoring its demise.”

“I honestly think that the Republican establishment doesn’t know what awaits it regarding this [immigration] issue.”

Also on “Fox & Friends,” Limbaugh said the issue of Obamacare is going to be a major factor in the upcoming elections.

“Why are [Democrats] selling it? It’s the law of the land. I’ll tell you why they’re selling it, is because of the 2014 midterms. Only 35 percent of the people approve or want Obamacare. In 2010, the Democrats lost big. I mean all the way down the ballot to dog catcher at the local level. They lost big because of Obamacare. They are salivating at winning 2014, and that is why they’re out there running campaigns for a bill that is already the law of the land that nobody can do anything about. They’re trying to sell it to counter the negatives about it for the 2014 midterms. …

“It’ll survive but I think it’s gonna implode on itself. It’s just unworkable. It is 2,200 pages of brand-new bureaucracy that transfers one-sixth of the economy to the government which doesn’t know how to run anything properly, particularly this one.”

Limbaugh also claimed that sign-up locations for parts of Obamacare are nothing more than front operations for the Democratic Party, looking to expand its voter base.

He explained: “The California health exchange, most people think that’s where you’re going to go to buy our health insurance if your employer doesn’t provide it.

Turns out it’s going to be run by the SEIU, the AFL-CIO, Cover California, the NAACP, the Democrat voter-registration group, running the California health exchange. You show up to get your health insurance, they’re going to register you as a Democrat; they’re going to get you to the polls to vote on Election Day as a Democrat; they’re using Obamacare and these exchanges to grow the Democrat Party.”
