Thread: Salvadoran man attacked Border Patrol agent near Falfurrias

Border Patrol agents arrested a Salvadoran man Saturday near Falfurrias, where the migrant struck the agent several times in the face -- fracturing the agent's nose.

Agents arrested Wilmer Antonio Hernandez-Argueta on Saturday, according to the criminal complaint against him.

"During the encounter, Hernandez assaulted an agent by striking him in the face several times," according to the criminal complaint. "The agent was later diagnosed with a nose fracture and deviated septum as a result of the assault."

Border Patrol agents questioned Hernandez, who admitted to illegally crossing the border.

"Hernandez stated he entered into the United States illegally by crossing the Rio Grande river utilizing a raft on December 31, 2015, near Hidalgo Texas," according to the criminal complaint.

Prosecutors filed a federal criminal complaint against Hernandez for illegally entering the United States.

It wasn't immediately clear why Hernandez wasn't charged with attacking the Border Patrol agent.

The Rio Grande Valley Sector deferred comment about the charges to the U.S Attorney's Office.

Court records don't list an attorney for Hernandez, who remains in federal custody.
