Sen. Dick Durbin to Hold Hearing on Granting Amnesty to DREAMers Who Enlist in Military

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), a Senate Gang of Eight member who co-wrote the chamber's amnesty bill last year, will hold a hearing next Monday to pressure lawmakers to include a provision to give illegal immigrant DREAMers amnesty if they enroll in the military.

According to Politico, witnesses, including Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), will testify about how giving amnesty to illegal immigrant DREAMers who enroll in the military will be "critical to military readiness and to creating a more diverse and inclusive Armed Forces." Durbin’s hearing will be held on May 19 at the Phoenix Military Academy, which is in the Chicago Public Schools system. Nearly 10% of the participants in Chicago's Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps are reportedly DREAMers.

Durbin chairs the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, and he has reportedly been speaking with Sen. Carl Levin (R-MI), the Chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee, about including an amnesty provision in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The House's version of the bill that got out of its committee did not include such a provision after pressure from conservatives.

Breitbart News's Matthew Boyle first reported on Rep. Jeff Denham's (R-CA) ENLIST Act and the House's secretive plan, fully embraced by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), to grant amnesty to illegal immigrant DREAMers who enlist in the military.

Sixteen former U.S. military leaders wrote Rep. Buck McKeon (R-CA), the Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, saying it would be a "serious mistake to open up military service to those known to have violated the laws of the United States."

"Whether they have done so by coming to this country illegally and living here in violation of immigration statutes, either at their own initiative or as a result of the actions of family members, they have acted in a manner inconsistent with the oath to support and defend the Constitution that they will be required to swear upon enlisting," they wrote. "Until now, such conduct has been deemed disqualifying and we believe it should continue to be so."

The officers also warned that if amnesty is included in the must-pass NDAA, it could be a way for more, broader forms of amnesty to be enacted via a conference with the Senate. House leaders ultimately listened as the amnesty provision was not included in the bill that passed McKeon's Armed Services Committee last week.

Heritage Action has vowed to negatively score any vote on giving amnesty to illegal immigrant DREAMers who enlist in the military. Moreover, Wade Miller, a combat veteran and who is a Heritage Action official, said that giving amnesty to illegal immigrants who enroll in the military simply "turns military service into a penance" was "appalling."

"Our volunteer military thrives in large part because American citizens recognize that it is a privilege, not a punishment, to serve in the military," he wrote. "The United States spends a significant amount of money to impart essential and enduring skills on military servicemen and women. It is both an honor and a benefit to be a part of the military – it certainly should not be treated as a punishment."

In the picture Durbin gives the impression of a man hiding something, now why would he have secrets to conceal?

Will the military be like FEMA? Just before Sandy all of the existing employees were required to "re-qualify" for their jobs then the administration hired Obama' Brown Shirts. Probably the reason that the Hurricane Sandy disaster is still a disaster... JMO

Army to Reduce Active Duty Soldiers by Another 30,000

The U.S. Army must reduce the number of soldiers in its active rolls by 30,000 in the next 17 months in order to drawdown forces to 450,000 by 2017, according to the Army Times.

As of April 1, there were 519,786 active soldiers, down from 550,000 in October 2012.

Budget pressures are forcing the drawdown of forces to be accelerated, according to the Army Times.
Because of budget pressures, the pace of the ongoing drawdown has been accelerated, so that active component manning is slated to hit 490,000 by the end of fiscal 2015, which is 23,000 fewer soldiers than previously planned.
In budget testimony and documents presented to Congress early this spring, Army leaders indicated the drawdown will continue through the end of 2017, when manning will hit 450,000 to 440,000.

If lawmakers do not ease the threat of further cuts, called sequestration, the active component could reach 420,000 by the end of the decade, according to Pentagon sources.

The Army’s drawdown strategy features a combination of reduced recruiting and re-enlistment missions, early outs for short-timers who are headed to college or are in units scheduled for inactivation, and strict enforcement of disciplinary and performance standards. The strategy also includes selective early retirement and reduction-in-force boards for officers, and separation and early retirement boards for NCOs who are in overstrength career fields and specialties.

No, Uncle Sam doesn’t really want YOU: Military now turns down 80% of applicants

Uncle Sam doesn’t want you. At least 80 percent of you.
These days, the U.S. military is only taking 20 percent of the applicants who walk into their local recruiter’s office intent on enlisting in the armed services.

Army Sgt. 1st Class Terrence Hoard told the Kansas City Star that his recruitment office once needed to sign up 16 to 20 soldiers per month to meet recruitment goals. Today, he can get by with 10 to 12.
“We’re turning down twice as many as before,” he told the paper, which reported that four of every five adults who seek to join the military in 2014 do not make the cut.
The U.S. Army hopes to hit 57,000 recruits for active duty this year. It’s on pace to do just that, even while applying a stricter set of standards as it pertains to physical fitness, appearance (i.e., tattoos), intelligence test results and an applicant’s criminal history.
    The Navy is no different.
“It’s not that we have a zero defect mentality, because we don’t,” Nathan Christensen, a Navy officer in public affairs for the Defense Department, told the Kansas City Star. “But it is true that the quality of military recruits right now is the highest it’s been in 40 years.”
The tough environment for potential recruits is due in large part to troop reductions in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as the Pentagon’s plans to cut the size of the active duty Army.

The Kansas City Star reported that Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel aims to lower active duty soldiers from 520,000 to 490,000 by autumn 2015.
