Sessions' Fate on Budget Rests with McConnell

Senator Jeff Sessions has been a tireless patriot, fighting against amnesty as the ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee. Mitch McConnell does not want him to become the Budget Committee Chairman when the new Congress is seated and is backing Senator Enzi. McConnell supports Obama and his executive amnesty and Jeff Sessions has been a thorn in his side. Republican Budget Committee members elect the new Chairman. If your US Senator is a member of the powerful Senate Budget Committee please call him and encourage him to vote for Senator Sessions. Clearly McConnell and his RINO gang are trying desperately to nullify the election of this past November. McConnell needs to beheld accountable for this act against the one Senator that will fight Obama!

Sessions' Fate on Budget Rests with McConnell

Per usual with anything regarding the U.S. Senate, there is more than meets the eye to this morning’s commentary on Enzi’s plans to oust Sessions as chairman of the Budget Committee.

New committee assignments won’t be named until closer to Christmas, as Sens. Reid and McConnell will have to haggle over the committee ratios after the Louisiana runoff.

But what many people do not know is that Sen. Mitch McConnell gets to singlehandedly pick 2 to 3 new members to place on the Budget committee. These 2 to 3 new members will decide whether Sessions or Enzi is at the helm of our nation’s fiscal policy for the 114th Congress. The ramifications and role of the Budget Committee in the next Congress cannot be understated and it is critical that a strong conservative like Sessions lead it.

To adjudicate who helms the Budget Committee, the committee members will gather and vote on either Sessions or Enzi.

So it’s very easy to see how McConnell, who can stack the Budget Committee with his choices, has an incredibly outsized role in Session’s fate.

Will McConnell pick 2 to 3 members for Budget that are friendly to Sessions, or will he use this Machiavellian opportunity to extract a promise from the new committee members to push Sessions out?

If Sessions loses the chair of the Budget Committee, it is only under the orders and direction of Mitch McConnell.

Sessions has been a leading proponent of repealing Obamacare, via reconciliation fighting amnesty and balancing the budget in 10 years. He has also lead the charge against the fiscally disastrous Ryan-Murray budget deal that set the stage for a blank debt ceiling hike to Obama in the beginning of this year.

McConnell has recently tried to walk back Obamacare repeal via reconciliation, and made clear he is not willing to fight to defund Obama’s executive amnesty, and will always raise the debt ceiling no matter what.

Will McConnell look at Enzi’s challenge of Sessions as a golden opportunity to silence what he sees as a troublesome conservative who won’t go along to get along when conservative principles are steam rolled? Or will McConnell use his power to name solid conservatives to the Budget Committee who will support fiscal responsibility, repealing Obamacare through reconciliation, and are more likely to back Sessions?

Senator Enzi has been silent on all of the above and certainly not been at the forefront of these battles. Given that the new
Budget committee members will sway the contest between Sessions and Enzi, they should be chosen with that in mind.

If Sessions loses the chair of the Budget Committee, it will only be at the design of Mitch McConnell and it will be carried out by his 2 to 3 budget henchmen.
