Jaime Rodriguez made 22 trips to the Weld County Jail, including nine times to register as a sex offender, before he was deported to Mexico in 2004. His crimes ranged from traffic offenses to attempted sexual assault on a child.

Rodriguez, 32, entered the U.S. when he was 2 months old. He declined to comment, but his mother, Felipa Rodriguez, said she sneaked him across the Mexican border into El Paso, Texas.

The young mother had made a heart-wrenching decision that she could take only one of her two children with her. She left her toddler daughter with relatives, hoping to give her son a better life.

It didn't work out that way.

Rodriguez grew up in Weld County, applied for and was granted legal permanent residency and graduated from Valley High School in Gilcrest. He spoke so little Spanish he sometimes had to use his younger brother as a translator when he talked to his mother, she said.

His criminal history goes back to 1997 when he was arrested twice on domestic-violence charges, which can be grounds for deportation.

In 2000, when he was 26, Rodriguez pleaded guilty to the attempted sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl in La Salle, near Greeley. He was given a deferred sentence, but it was revoked in 2002 after he missed treatment classes and was involved in a third domestic-violence assault against his girlfriend.

In 2003, he was sentenced to a year in prison after another domestic-violence arrest involving his new wife. In prison, he finally came to the attention of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and he was deported in July 2004 to Mexico.

"For him to be in (Mexico) where he didn't speak the language or know anything about it was very difficult," Felipa Rodriguez said.

Jaime Rodriguez stayed in Mexico with relatives, though he did not meet the sister who had been left behind. The child who had missed out on what was supposed to be the land of opportunity had earned her business degree in Mexico.

Rodriguez came back into the U.S. after only three months, his mother said. With his flawless English and a legitimate U.S. identification card, Rodriguez easily crossed the border between Juarez and El Paso. Two months later, he was arrested in La Salle on charges of misdemeanor child abuse involving his 18-month-old daughter.

After serving his 180-day jail term, he was turned over to ICE and charged in U.S. District Court with illegally re-entering the United States. He pleaded guilty and will be sentenced this month. He is expected to be deported again after serving his sentence.

This is why we need to secure our borders so they do not enter the first time and to prevent these criminals from coming back. Look at all the pain to these families this man has caused not to mention money and time our government and law enforcement has spent on him. This is the most ridiculous law enforcement I have ever seen and many american citizens are getting injured or dying because of it. Something has to be done to enforce our laws even if we have to vote all of these traitors to our government out regardless of party.
Freedom isn't free... Don't forget the men who died and gave that right to all of us....
