Six Illegals Apprehended after Foot Pursuit and Search
Release Date: August 24, 2020
GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. – U.S. Border Patrol Agents from the Buffalo Sector received information regarding one suspected illegal alien near a local store on Grand Island that ultimately resulted in the arrest of six individuals.
On August 23, agents from the Buffalo Station encountered a subject at a local convenience store and discovered that the he was illegally present in the United States.
He was subsequently placed under arrest. Further investigation revealed that five additional illegal aliens were located at a nearby hotel.
Agents responded to the vicinity of the hotel and encountered five male subjects. Three of the subjects fled the area on foot. Two of them were arrested after a short foot pursuit and a third subject fled into a nearby wooded area.
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to assist with the search of the third individual to include the New York State Police, Erie County Sheriff’s Office and the Grand Island Police Department. After several hours, the third subject emerged from a wooded area and onto a roadway where he was arrested by Border Patrol agents.
“From narcotics arrests to fleeing illegal aliens, our Border Patrol agents are constantly observant and prepared for any scenario.” said Patrol Agent in Charge Jeffrey Wilson. “This arrest of six subjects unlawfully present in the United States over the weekend truly reflects the Border Patrol’s commitment to keeping our communities safe and protecting our nation’s borders.”
During processing, Border Patrol agents discovered that five of the individuals were Honduran citizens and one subject was a Mexican citizen. Additionally, it was revealed that four of them had prior deportation records.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection welcomes assistance from the community. Citizens can report suspicious activity to the U.S. Border Patrol and remain anonymous by calling 1-800-331-0353 toll free.
