Some Colorado sheriffs will stop honoring federal immigration detainer requests

DENVER — Some Colorado sheriffs will no longer honor requests from federal immigration authorities to continue to detain someone once they're eligible to be released on the charges for which they were initially arrested.

The move comes in the wake of court decisions in Oregon and Pennsylvania that found that such detainer requests from Immigration and Customs Enforcement are not commands that local jurisdictions have to abide by. As a result, some sheriffs in Oregon have stopped honoring ICE detainer requests, and Philadelphia is limiting their use.

In Colorado, Boulder County Sheriff Joe Pelle said in an email shared with The Associated Press that inmates with ICE detainers will be released once any state or federal charges are resolved. The San Miguel County sheriff announced a similar decision Tuesday.

An ICE spokesman could not immediately comment.

Now that will be convenient for the Mexican Cartels. They will be able to operate more freely in Colorado to sell their now legal 'wares".

If they don't get deported then nothing is resolved!
