A man charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of the mother of his two children is expected to be transferred from federal custody to Kane County officials next week, Aurora police said Friday.

Hezekiah Hamilton, a 24-year-old Jamaican national who'd been living in Joliet, has been in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement since Oct. 31 but likely will be transferred to Kane County next week, Aurora Police spokesman Dan Ferrelli said.

Hamilton will be held in lieu of $2 million bail.Hamilton is accused of killing his estranged girlfriend, Brenetta Beck, 25, on Oct. 30 in her Aurora apartment while the couple's two children—14-month-old Tamia and newborn Trevion—were in another room. Hamilton was named a suspect in the case within days of the killing and held by federal authorities based on his criminal record.

Police have said evidence ties Hamilton to the crime.
