BOISE — A Mexican national formerly living in Nampa was sentenced to five years in prison Wednesday for distributing methamphetamine in Twin Falls, U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson announced.

Sergio Duarte-Tavera, 26, was also ordered by Judge B. Lynn Winmill to serve four years of supervised release after prison. Duarte-Tavera pleaded guilty May 14.

According to his plea agreement, Duarte-Tavera made arrangements with another person to sell two ounces of methamphetamine in May 2011. Law enforcement watched as Duarte-Tavera provided that person with in excess of five grams of meth in the parking lot of a large retail establishment in Twin Falls. He provided the meth “on the front,” which means the purchaser would pay at a later time.

The case was the result of an Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force investigation. It was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration with assistance by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
