Texas GOP Oks more-lenient immigration platform

Many of the more than 6,000 delegates assembled in Fort Worth had objected to the platform, complaining it was "ambiguous at best, liberal at worst."

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - The Texas Republican Convention has approved a party platform on immigration conceding that mass deportation of illegal immigrants isn't practical and calling for "common ground" to develop more-realistic strategies.

Many of the more than 6,000 delegates assembled in Fort Worth had objected to the platform, complaining it was "ambiguous at best, liberal at worst."

But supporters said the language allows Texas to lead the nation on immigration solutions, rather than simply listing problems generated by it.

The platform sanctions a national temporary worker program to bring foreigners to America when jobs are available.

A series of motions to replace the proposed platform with the state GOP's more-traditional, hardline stances against illegal immigration all failed late Friday night.

After that, the full platform was voted on and approved with little objection.

This should not be at all surprising to Republicans. Bush advocated for Mexican "immigration," Reagan granted amnesty. Leaders of the party have always let the "soldiers" of the party advocate one way, while "Generals" of the party did just the opposite. Where in politics are the common sense candidates? Now with super pacs able to spendin uncontrolled ways, I wonder if voting will contimue to make sense?

Surprise, suprise, We Texans have Mr. Perry for a governor and Dewhirst in the Texas senate that we desperately need to get rid of, not to mention John Cornyn and Kay Bailey Hutshison that need to go also. Voters in Texas have alot of house cleaning to do. These people are all leftovers from Mr. Bush's Texas that we need to eleminate.

Despite softening the previous platform’s tougher language, however, the platform still calls for limiting citizenship-by-birth to those born to U.S citizens, denying welfare benefits to those who cannot prove citizenship and encouraging legislation to prohibit public-school enrollment by “non-citizens unlawfully present in our nation.”

But even with that it does'nt address their taking jobs, selling drugs, driving drunk to kill and maim our kids and grandmothers, nor discoiurage more from aliens coming!!

Cujo total agreement, but that will take years to clear TX politics of Bush voters. Crap, after two Bush's I know many Texans clamoring for Jeb. Some never get the picture.
