Thread: Texas House, Senate Make Progress On Border Security

With time running out on the Texas Legislature to get things done on border security before the session ends in Austin in a couple of weeks, it seems like there is finally some movement on a bill.

State Representative Dennis Bonnen tells KTRH that after nearly two months, his proposal that passed the House in March is getting a Senate hearing today.

“Hopefully they’ll look favorably upon the bill, and progress it to the full committee and then get it to the Senate floor,” Bonnen said.
Bonnen thinks his bill will become law, and that you'll finally have the border protection you wanted when you voted last November.
“It will give Texans the confidence to know that Texas is going to give them a consistent, reliable force, working to keep the border safe and secure,” Bonnen explained.

But William Gheen with ALIPAC says Texas lawmakers aren't telling you everything.

“You got lawmakers there pushing a bill to give licenses and ID’s to illegal immigrants, which polling data tells us between 77% and 83% of Americans oppose,” Gheen said.

Gheen says in his view, Texas is “bipolar” when it comes to illegal immigration.
