Jackson police have charged a man with rape and are also holding him for immigration violations.

Police arrested Delmer Lainez Lasandro, 24, early Monday for raping a 16-year-old girl. He is scheduled to be arraigned via video link on at 8 a.m. Tuesday in Jackson City Court. He is charged with rape and sexual battery, according to the police department.

Around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, police were called to the teen's home. She told officers that Lasandro was giving her a ride home from her relative's house. On the way there, Lasandro pulled behind a building on the 2000 block of North Parkway, where he raped the teen. She was able to get away and run for help, according to police.

Officers arrested Lasandro at his home on Carroll Street in Jackson around 1:20 a.m. Monday. He is being held at the Madison County Jail.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement placed a hold on Lasandro, Jackson police said.
