STOCKTON — The California Highway Patrol’s high-risk tactical Warrant Service Team arrested Try Smuth, 33, on suspicion of unlawful possession of a firearm, resisting arrest and other crimes shortly after 9 p.m. Wednesday in the 2400 block of Little Aston Way, authorities said.

Smuth fled on foot during a traffic stop in November and managed to escape, but officers found a stolen handgun under the seat of his car, authorities said. CHP officers went Wednesday to a home where Smuth was living to serve a felony arrest warrant, the CHP said. Officers used forced entry to apprehend Smuth after he locked himself in his bedroom. He was then taken into custody without further incident, authorities said.

Smuth has an extensive criminal history and is associated with Stockton’s Asian Boyz street gang, authorities said. Because of Smuth’s background, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents placed a detainer on him for consideration for deportation to Cambodia under ICE’s Secure Communities program.
